First off, we agree that a slow computing experience is not the ideal and can be frustrating. We totally get it.
The good news is that your default Effortless Desktop experience should feel no different than working on a local desktop.
However, there are certain circumstances which may contribute to your desktop feeling slow and this article will help you address each:
Desktop needs a restart - By the very nature of the Microsoft Windows OS, the performance of Windows can degrade the longer you go between shutting down, or restarting your desktop. Therefore, if you are experiencing a slow work experience, the first thing to try is to 'Restart' your desktop.
To do this, click on your 'Start' menu and select 'Restart'.
Additionally, if your host machine has not been shut down or restarted in a while, you may want to try restarting your physical device also.
Poor internet connection - You do need a solid internet connection to run your Effortless Desktop. If you are on an airplane wi-fi network, or an overloaded public wi-fi for instance, that internet connection may not be sufficient and your experience may seem delayed. You can test to see whether your internet is sufficient by running a speed test. To do this:
- Log out of your Effortless Desktop and pull up the browser on your host machine.
- Go to www.speedtest.net
- Run a speed test by clicking 'Go'.
- Ensure that your internet speed is not less than 10mbs down and 5mbs up and has a ping time of less than 100 ms.
If your speeds are slower than these, then you may be experiencing internet connectivity issues.
Other - Although the two above situations make up over 80% of performance issues we see, every once in a while, we'll find another cause of slowness (and they rarely are actually do to your desktop at all in fact.) For instance, we have found cloud-based applications that have a slow memory leak and eventually get very sluggish after running for some time. If you have restarted your desktop and host-machine and you have confirmed your internet is sufficient, than reach out to us to help you trouble-shoot what else might be causing a slow experience. That is one of the benefits of working with Effortless... you have a team of support engineers dedicated to ensuring you have an optimal computing experience.
